Your Medicines
A Pharmacist will visit your ward regularly, and will be happy to
discuss any queries or concerns you have about your medication.
Before leaving Hospital, you will be given a supply of any medicines you need to take. However, if your medication has not been changed and you have a supply at home, please inform the nursing staff immediately.
If you need further supplies, your GP will give you a prescription for these.
If you are given any new medicines and you are uncertain as to its purpose or how to take it, please ask a member of the ward or Pharmacy staff, or your GP. Alternatively, you can contact our Patients’ Medicines Helpline on 01283 5511511, extension 5111 or 5168 between 9am and 5pm Monday to Friday.
Important information about Prescription Charges
Patients are reminded that they must bring all their medicines, in the original labelled packaging, to every hospital appointment and when they are admitted to the hospital. This will ensure that staff can confirm the medicines that they are taking and update their health records. Patient's own medicines will be reused to reduce wastage, and a new supply provided when they leave hospital.
Following an Outpatient or Day case appointment or Accident and Emergency visit, any medicines supplied to take home, will be subject to a standard NHS prescription charge, unless the patient is exempted. Patients must bring sufficient money or their 'proof of exemption' with them when they attend any appointments.
