Smoking, alcohol and illegal substances

Burton Hospitals runs no smoking sites and we request that you do not smoke within the Hospital buildings, entrances or grounds.

A smoking shelter for visitors and patients is located on the ramp near A&E on the Queen's Hospital site.

Electronic cigarettes are also not permitted to be used in any building on Burton Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust sites but can be used in car park areas on each site.


If you would like help to stop smoking:

  • You may wish to discuss nicotine replacement therapy (patches and gum etc.) with your GP or Practice Nurse well before you come into Hospital.
  • Ask a member of Hospital staff for advice
  • If you live in Staffordshire, contact the South Staffordshire NHS Stop Smoking Service Time To Quit
  • If you have a Derbyshire GP please contact Derbyshire County Stop Smoking Service on 0800 085 22 99 during 0900 – 1700. An answer machine is available out of hours.

Alcohol, illegal substances, and flammable materials such as matches, lighter fuel, or smoking materials should not be brought into the Hospital.
