Our performance

Burton Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is regulated against, and expected to deliver, a number of nationally and locally set standards, including clincial, non-clinical, financial and governance standards.

Although we continue to perform well on a number of our standards, we never take this for granted and always recognise that there is room for improvement.

Patient experience is key to our organisational objectives and we place a large emphasis on the quality of our services.

Like all hospitals, we are monitored by the Care Quality Commission (CQC) - the independent regulator of health and social care in England -against a range of targets and thresholds and the CQC shares its findings with the public.

The independent regulator Monitor also has an ongoing role in assessing NHS trusts under the Health and Social Care Act (2012) and ensuring that foundation trusts are well-led, in terms of both quality and finances.

We endeavour to participate in every relevant national audit, survey, database and register considered to be likely to provide the organisation with the opportunity to improve patient care.

The Board of Directors considers key quality, performance and financial indicators at each monthly meeting. This enables the Trust's performance to be reviewed to ensure that all targets and priorities are being addressed.

A key aspect of the performance management system is the monthly performance reviews held with the senior managers and clinicians of each clinical directorate where detailed discussion of issues takes place.

Complaints and enquiries received by the Patient Advice and Liaison Services (PALS) provide a rich source of feedback on the quality of services provided to patients. These are taken very seriously at every level of the organisation. Quarterly reports are reviewed at meetings of the Board of Directors where any trends and lessons learned ar discussed. Priase and positive feedback are also recorded and reviewed through PALS which are a useful indicator of best practice and provide helpful feedback for staff.
