Spotlight on therapy services
The new series of Spotlight on Services public lectures will begin next week (January 13) at Queen’s Hospital, following the success of the 2009 programme.
Last year, the popular education sessions informed patients and the public about wide ranging areas of health from childhood diabetes to fertility issues. The first lecture of 2010 will raise awareness of the importance of therapy services at the hospital, which is managed by Burton Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.
The Trust’s occupational therapy and physiotherapy services are essential in ensuring that patients are treated within the 18 week care pathway and that they are discharged safely from hospital.
Rachel McKeown, Head of Therapies and Physiotherapy and Nicola Lawson, Head of Occupational Therapy, will give an overview of the Occupational Therapy and Physiotherapy teams and the vital role that they play within the hospital.
Rachel said: “The aim of the talk is to explain and demonstrate the various approaches and interventions which our therapists use on a daily basis. It provides an opportunity to raise awareness of how therapy services may be able to enhance a patient’s functional abilities.
“It also allows us to highlight our commitment to delivering high quality, safe and effective practices and treating our patients as we would like to be treated.”
Everyone is welcome to attend the session that takes place on Wednesday January 13, 2010 at 10.30am in the Medical Education Centre, at Queen’s Hospital, Belvedere Road.
