STAFF at Burton Hospitals raising the awareness of prostate cancer have been rewarded for their efforts by being shortlisted for a national award.

The Trust’s urology team have been shortlisted in the Innovation Excellence category in the Macmillan Professionals Excellence Awards, which are due to be announced in November this year.

The team, led by Consultant Urological Surgeon Miss Jyoti Shah and Advanced Nurse Practioner Sarah Minns, have been at the forefront of promoting prostate cancer in the community, linking up with Burton Albion Football Club to host screening sessions for the local population.

Miss Shah said: “It’s a tremendous honour to be shortlisted for this award and for the work we have done alongside Macmillan in caring for people with prostate cancer. The team is incredibly passionate about providing the best care and treatment for our patients as well and raising the profile of prostate cancer in the community.

“The support we have had, particularly from Burton Albion, has been terrific and the response from the community has been phenomenal.”

The awards ceremony, which will be held at the Radisson Blu Hotel in London in November, highlights individuals and teams who have shown exceptional leadership in the categories of service improvement, innovation, and integration which have benefited people affected by cancer.
