MIU has been shortlisted for prestigious local award

The team at Sir Robert Peel Community Hospital has been short-listed for a prestigious local award.

The Minor Injuries Unit (MIU) is among three nominees to have been short-listed for Tamworth Round Table’s ‘Public Hero of the Year’ title.

The group is hosting its ‘Spirit of Tamworth Community Awards’ to honour the excellent work that organisations and individuals are carrying out across the borough.The Round Table has received more than 400 nominations across all categories in the space of just three months.

Senior Sister Elaine Sherrin-Jones said she was delighted that the team’s hard work had been recognised.

She added: “We were all really surprised and thrilled when we heard that we had been short-listed for the Public Hero of the Year award. Providing the best possible experience and care for patients are our top priorities and they are always at the heart of everything we do.

“The service we provide at Sir Robert Peel is a team effort. From domestics to reception and nursing staff, each person plays a key role in ensuring that everything runs smoothly so that our patients have a positive visit. I am immensely proud of the whole team and I am rooting for the MIU to win this wonderful accolade.”

Chairman of Tamworth Round Table Barry Toon added: “Tamworth Round Table is part of the best young man’s organisation in the world and our members are so proud to have had the opportunity to listen to and see the hundreds of nominations that have been put forward.

"All of the staff at the MIU should feel very proud of their efforts and for having been short-listed by the people of Tamworth who hold this vital service in such high regard.”

The winner will be announced during a ceremony at Drayton Manor on Friday.
