Sheila Jackson - South Derbyshire

Sheila Jackson

Council of Governors

I have always lived in the South Derbyshire area having been born in Woodville, in the days before the onset of the NHS. I am divorced with three grown up children, all of whom at some point in their lives have worked for Burton Hospital, my son recently being transferred to Derby when Histology was closed here last year.

I am also nan to an assortment of 7 natural, borrowed and step grandchildren, ranging in ages from 16 to 28 and all of whom I have enjoyed taking on an assortment of holidays. I also have 2 great grand children

I began my working life at a firm of chartered accountants in the days before females were fully fledged accountants, had my family, and when my youngest daughter was 9 months old resumed full time work doing a variety of jobs until I also joined Burton Hospitals in 1987 working in the finance department. I saw the changes that “Trust” status brought to the Health Service including charging for the services provided to G.P.s amongst others. I also helped in the implementation of the HISS computer system and still think MOX is an ideal communication tool.

I have also been involved in voluntary work for a number of years and am currently a Parish Councillor, treasurer to three other organisations including the League of Friends amongst them. I believe that this involvement in the wider community and my knowledge of the finance work of the hospital will assist me in becoming a better governor and may hopefully help me to make a difference.
