I have worked for Burton Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust for almost 20 years, in the Rheumatology Department, as medical secretary to Dr Mohamed Nisar, our Lead Rheumatology Consultant. For the last 3 years, I have also been Lead Medical Secretary for Rheumatology and our ‘sister team’, Gastroenterology.  It feels the time is right to use my experience and insight at ‘grass roots’ level to try to enhance the service we give to our patients in another way.  I have felt for a long time that somewhere there is a disconnect between front line staff and the executive management team with a disappointing tendency for things to get lost in translation.  I feel I can act as a conduit between these two areas, helping to make processes smoother.

My front line colleagues are very caring and dedicated; the executives show great enthusiasm and drive. Between us, we can improve the standards at our local hospital, ensuring that every patient’s experience is as good as it possibly can be.

With regards to the possible merger with the Royal Derby Hospitals Foundation Trust, I feel this will be to the benefit of our patients - although in order to move forwards in this direction there is a great deal of detailed, careful work to be done. Being able to be involved as even a small part of that transition is exciting and I am sure will be very rewarding.
