Samuel Johnson Community Hospital

Welcome to the Samuel Johnson Community Hospital -- every day we work hard to offer the very best in NHS care for people living in and around the communities of Lichfield and Burntwood.

Great healthcare close to home

We believe that if you need to come to hospital you deserve to be treated by caring, friendly professionals in a clean, welcoming environment that is as close to your home as possible.

The Samuel Johnson Community Hospital offers a range of inpatient and outpatient services in the heart of your community, including x-rays, ultrasound scans, day case surgery, renal dialysis and rehabilitation services, a midwife-led maternity unit and antenatal clinics.

We take pride in providing patient-centered care that is unique to each person and their lifestyle.

Treatment for minor injuries

As of April 4th 2016 the hospital’s nurse-led minor injuries unit is open 8am to 9pm 7 days per week. Our team of experienced nurses can see and treat patients with a range of conditions including burns, bites, cuts and bruises, sprains, simple fractures, earaches, some infections and severe sore throats.

You don’t need an appointment and visiting the minor injuries unit is usually quicker than travelling to the nearest A&E department. In fact, most patients are seen and treated within an hour.

Speciality services

Consultant and nurse-led clinics carry out consultations, investigations, minor procedures, post treatment follow-up and health promotion.

Our specialities include cardiology, colorectal surgery, dermatology, diabetes, gallbladder, general medicine, general paediatrics, general surgery, gynaecology, haematology, renal, neurology, neuro rehabilitation, ophthalmology, respiratory, rheumatology and urology.

So ask your GP to refer you to the Samuel Johnson Community Hospital where you can get your tests, diagnoses, treatment and follow-up care all under one roof.

Maternity and antenatal care

You can also book to have your baby at our midwife-led maternity unit by contacting the hospital directly. Care is provided by a small team of midwives and maternity support workers. We don’t have doctors at the unit, so this service is suitable for women experiencing a normal pregnancy with no adverse medical history or previous pregnancy complications.
