The paediatric department provides inpatient and outpatient general paediatric services in and around Burton, south Staffordshire, south Derbyshire and part of Leicestershire. The neonatal unit provides neonatal intensive care and special care as part of the Central Newborn Network. The consultants also maintain a number of sub-speciality interests supported by regional networking and local outreach clinics provided by regional specialists.
The ‘service’ consultant is available to provide telephone advice Mon-Fri, 11am-4pm. This service is supported by a Rapid Access Clinic to assess more pressing cases that do not require admission (e.g. first seizure, prolonged jaundice). Referrals to the RAC can be made via the service consultant/on-call team or by the usual fax/letter route.
