Genito-Urinary Medicine

About Us

The Genito-Urinary Medicine (GUM) department is located on the top floor of the Geoffrey Hodges Wing on the Outwoods site of the hospital. The department provides a full range of general GUM services as well as specialist HIV care.

The department includes 2 consultation rooms, 2 examination rooms, 1 dual purpose consultation/examination room, 1 treatment room, 1 quiet/counselling room, 1 health adviser room, 1 microbiology laboratory and a reception with a patient waiting area.

Inpatient GUM support is provided on request and out of hours GUM patients are directed to the Emergency Department.

The clinic offers tests and treatment for the following conditions:

  • Anogenital Herpes
  • Cervicitis
  • Chlamydia
  • Contraception – Oral, emergency, barrier & injectable
  • Epididymitis
  • Genital Dermatoses
  • Genital Pain Syndromes
  • Gonorrhoea
  • Hepatitis A
  • Hepatitis B
  • Hepatitis C
  • HIV
  • Lymphogranuloma Venereum
  • Molluscum Contagiosum
  • Non-Gonococcal Urethritis
  • Pediculosis
  • Pelvic Inflammatory Disease
  • Scabies
  • Syphilis
  • Trichomoniasis

The clinic also offers Health Advice including:

  • Information, education and support
  • Partner notification to ensure the attendance and treatment of sexual contacts at a GU Medicine clinic or Primary Care facility
  • Counselling, especially for those with HIV infection and their family, friends and partners
