Paediatric Consultant
Dr T Jacob Samuel
Consultant Paediatrician with special interest in Childhood Diabetes & Lead Clinician.
Dr Jacob Samuel was appointed in Oct 1997 as a General Paediatrician within Paediatric diabetes and Endocrinology.
His training was in the Northern Deanery rotating through subspecialties like Cardiology, Nephrology, Gastroenterology and CF, Diabetes, Endocrines and PICU.
He managed to reorganise the Paediatric Diabetic service and established a dedicated diabetic team that included a Paediatric specialist nurse and dietician.
The patients numbers have doubled since the service was started.
A transition clinic was established with Dr. A. Willis from the beginning.
Patients are managed on NICE guidance and now offer insulin pump therapy through our neighbouring Trusts.
In the near future it is hoped that another full time PDSN will be appointed by the PCT to work across the patch.
GPs can directly ask for advice and no waiting time for diabetic patients.
Dr Samuel was the College tutor for 6 years and is currently the lead Clinician for Paediatrics.
He is also a College examiner and hosts regular Part II MRCPCH clinicals Exams in Burton Hospitals NHS FoundationTrust.
He also plays an active role in the regional network, Partners in Paediatrics.
