WRVS
WRVS has been helping people in Britain for over 65 years. Originally set up as the Women’s Voluntary Service in 1938, the charity played a crucial role during the Second World War, and now focuses on helping older people and others in need to remain independent and get more out of life.
Today WRVS is one of the largest voluntary organisations in Britain with around 60,000 men and women helping older people to stay independent at home, or stay active in their community by running services such as community transport, Meals on Wheels and library services.
We help provide the essentials and support to patients and visitors through shops, cafés and information services in over 300 hospitals throughout the country and we have teams of volunteers on call night and day to support people caught up in an emergency or disaster.
Any profits made in WRVS’ shops and cafés are gifted back to the hospital enabling them to buy extra equipment and improve services. WRVS has been at Queen’s Hospital for over 30 years. WRVS projects at this hospital have funded the following improvements. (See project information
