In-Patient Physiotherapy Service

The in-patient physiotherapy service offers assessment and treatment of physical and respiratory function, mobilisation and the ability to function independently.  Before your treatment starts, your physiotherapist will discuss your treatment and rehabilitation goals with you in detail. This will give you the opportunity to ask any questions or raise any concerns.

The in-patient physiotherapy service is divided into specialised teams who work closely with the wider medical team (Consultants, Nurses, and Occupational Therapists).

The in-patient service consists of Team Leaders, Senior Physiotherapists, Junior Physiotherapists, Assistant Practitioners and Physiotherapy Assistants. The Senior and Junior Physiotherapists rotate into the different specialties as part of their continued post qualification training.

Many of the Senior Physiotherapists are Practice Educators and offer placements to student physiotherapists from local Universities.

Regular training sessions are provided for all physiotherapy staff to ensure they remain up-to-date with current physiotherapy practice and deliver a high quality service to the patients.

The in-patient service provides physiotherapy between 08:00-19:00 Mon to Fri and between 08:00-19:00 at weekends and Bank Holidays. In addition, an out of hours emergency respiratory on-call service is available.

Patients who are well enough to be discharged from hospital before achieving their rehabilitation goals will be referred on to the relevant community therapy service.
