Amputee and Limb Fitting Clinic

Queen's Hospital offers a comprehensive rehabilitation service for the lower limb amputee. We have an experienced and dedicated multi-disciplinary team (MDT). The physiotherapy and occupational therapy specialists are based at the hospital. The lead physiotherapist has been working in amputee rehabilitation for more than 20 years.

Our aim is to enable patients who undergo lower limb amputation to achieve their potential, whether aiming for wheelchair independence or walking with a prosthetic limb.

The wider MDT is based at the Haywood Hospital in Stoke-on-Trent, and the prosthetic team attends Queen's Hospital physiotherapy department each Thursday, where a satellite limb-fitting clinic is held. This satellite clinic is well-established at Burton, as it has been running for 25 years with our regular prosthetist, who has been working with us for most of this time. We have a specialist Rehabilitation Consultant , who meets and assesses all new patients, reviewing them according to their need. He will send a comprehensive report to the GP after every consultation and liaises with other specialists if this is appropriate. We also have a counsellor who works exclusively with amputees and she is happy to visit patients in hospital or in their own homes if they wish.
