Contribute to the Keogh review

Burton Hospitals are encouraging our staff, patients and the public to be open and honest and to share their stories using the methods outlined on the NHS Choices site.

We welcome the review as it provides us with an opportunity to learn from the feedback and insights offered by others outside of our own organisation. The review will help us to build upon the good work we are already doing at Burton, and help to make further improvements to the quality of patient care, outcomes and experience.

We would like to emphasise that our mortality rates in the vast majority of areas are absolutely as they should be. In fact, in many areas mortality rates are significantly better than the England average, for example, fractured neck of femur, acute heart attacks and bronchitis, and urinary tract infections.

However, as a responsible provider of healthcare services, we take all issues seriously and will be investigating diligently the small number of areas where we know we need to improve. These relate to patients with colorectal cancer, secondary malignancies, COPD (Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease), pneumonia and septicaemia.

A number of robust action plans are already in place and the Trust is committed to sharing progress openly with GPs, patients and local people as far as possible.

Further information can be found on the NHS Choices website.
